GATT Experience with the State-trading Systems
Participation of Poland, Romania and Hungary in the GATT provides a valid lesson of experience in the field of East-West trade co-operation. This chapter starts with the appraisal of the trade concessions exchanged between the East European members of the GATT and other contracting parties. Next, it considers the GATT’s role in removal of discrimination and bilateralism in East-West trade. Finally, the issue of reciprocity, as well as consultation and information, is critically discussed.
