Abstract
Fred Strange was born in Nottingham in 1807.There is little information which documents his early life except a note that he was trained as a house painter.1 His later difficulties with the oil medium and with figure studies as well as his occasional problems with perspective indicate that he was not a professionally trained artist. Heprobably took lessons in watercolour and was thoroughly grounded in that medium.
