Abstract

There is a large variety of standard bolts, nuts and screws which are used to secure various forms of joint. The large number of standard screw threads available emphasises the care that must be taken to ensure that only similar threads are mated. It is essential that the correct spanner or wrench is used to avoid damage to the gripping device, the bolt or nut, and injury to the user. The choice of either screw or rivet in an assembly can depend upon various factors. Typical factors are as follows.
