‘The insurance profession’; ‘the profession of banking’; ‘the advertising profession’; ‘the profession of journalism’; ‘the accountancy profession’; ‘the profession of management’ — the list of occupations claiming to be professions is a lengthening one and the rights and wrongs of the matter have been argued in the introductory chapter to this book. We shall concentrate here on two groups of people, the advertisers and those concerned with business management, who are each responsible for a formidable amount of jargon each year.
