Abstract

Many firms employ a skilled man to be responsible for the erection of scaffolding. These working platforms are subjected to superimposed loads (which include the people working on the scaffolding, the materials stacked on the platform, etc.), live loads, which can be quite substantial at times, include men walking along the platforms with loaded barrows, etc., and dead loads which are the weights of the various materials used in the structure. All these added together require a scaffolding to be erected to conform with good practice. The following are recommended for further reading, dealing with scaffolding and covering materials and good practice.
