A force platform system for biomechanics research in sport

The author has reported previously on the requirements for a suitable force platform for use in biomechanics research in sports (Payne, 1968). Briefly, it is necessary that the platform be rigid, light, and very stiff and have a natural frequency that is not excited by the body forces under investigation. There should not be any significant “cross-talk” between axes of measurement, and recording must ensure that results are not modified by, for example, high-inertia recording pens. Of equal importance is the requirement that experiments be carried out, as much as possible, under natural conditions for the particular movement under study.
