Mathematical modeling of the human gait: An application of the SELSPOT-system
In order to simulate a physical course of events, a well-defined model is very helpful. If the physical relations are known in a mathematical form, the model must be defined exactly in order to transform it to mathematical equations. A model in such a form is enhanced greatly by use of a computer in which a major part of the analyzing and calculating processes can be accomplished in a very short time. The disadvantage, however, is that a model is always a rough approximation of reality. However, depending on the specific problem that is to be solved, a model with approximations made with regard to that problem can be acceptable.
