Abstract

This book is concerned with leisure and leisure travel. It examines trends in leisure and the factors influencing variations in the amount of leisure and it examines ways of estimating the demand for leisure activities. A crucial problem to be overcome right at the start is the more precise definition of all these terms. This is particularly so in that writers about these subjects to date have tended to use differing definitions, attaching greater or lesser precision to the various terms, leisure, free time, recreation, etc. The most noticeable differences are those between writers from different disciplines.
