Abstract
I am welcoming you to the University on behalf of the Principal who greatly regrets he cannot be present. As many of you will know, we have had two symposia in 1964 and 1972, and it was their success which led to plans for annual seminars of which this is the first. It is evident from the attendance and the programme that the groundwork has been effectively accomplished, and I hope that the meetings will live up to these high expectations.
