Abstract

If the reader has completed exercise 1.7, particularly question 5, the amount of tedious work involved in working out problems in arithmetic using long division and multiplication will be obvious. Fortunately other quicker methods have been developed, including tables of logarithms, roots and reciprocals and the slide rule.
