Thyroid and Sodium Transport

Thyroid hormone is a key regulator of developmental processes in all vertebrates and of heat production, usually measured by rates of oxygen consumption (QO2), in the homeotherms (Barker, 1951). In the 1920s it was established that the characteristic effects of thyroid hormones on QO2 of specific tissues is preserved in vitro (Rohrer, 1924 & Foster, 1927).
