Ion transport via alamethicin channels

Abstract

Alamethicin is an antibiotic from Trichoderma viride (Meyer & Reusser, 1967). It has been shown to be a cyclic peptide with 19 (Meyer & Reusser, 1967) or 18 (Payne, Jakes & Hartley, 1970) amino acid residues. Payne et al. 1970, obtained the amino acid sequence and concluded that it was a ring of 17 residues with a pendant C-terminal glutamine (Fig. 1).
