There have been a number of studies exploring the main leisure interests, and the work and play patterns of Jamaican adolescents. Arsine (1967) and Conners (1968) sought to find out the academic, occupational, and leisure-time interests of groups of 14 and 15 year-olds in the middle and lower classes in Kingston and a country town—May Pen. Dennis (1966) was interested mainly in the use of leisure time and in the influence of television. His sample was of a similar age range but was about 83% upper and middle-class and 17% working-class. Evans (1965) was interested in the work and play patterns of younger adolescents (10–15 years) in rural Jamaica. These were largely from the middle and lower classes.
