Urban Politics: An Overview

  • Ken Young

To attempt an all-encompassing review of problems and prospects within the field of urban politics would be to exceed the bounds of my own competence, and to trespass upon that of my co-contributors. I propose instead to touch upon a limited number of issues which arise from these seven essays and which relate to urban political research as presently carried out in Britain. I direct my remarks in the main to a number of key issues in the study of political values, one of the all-pervasive themes in this field. I go on from there to set out some brief observations on research strategies. But we need first to face the question of why we study urban politics at all.
