To find the square root of a number N to any required degree of accuracy, starting with a reasonable first approximation x0. Calculate in turn the numbers x1= 1/2x0+ N/x0); x2= 1/2 (x1+ N/x1) and so on, the general relation being xn+1= 1/2 (xn+N/xn).
