Abstract
Every organisation is required to achieve certain objectives. Sometimes these are imposed by shareholders and the effectiveness of management is measured by its ability to generate profits and dividends; sometimes they are imposed by government which requires nationalised industries to secure a return on invested capital or to achieve a target surplus.
