During the remaining ten months of liberty left to Helmuth, his activities fall broadly into two groups. In the first place he was occupied in completing the drafts of the post-war plans to which he may be said to have put his final touches in September, and in working for the Abwehr in Berlin. Secondly he made two visits to Western Europe, two to Turkey, one to Poland, one to Austria, a further one to Scandinavia and several to South Germany. The two groups overlap in time and purpose, for the earlier journeys were made before September and all were in one way or another connected with his various activities in Berlin. But they can be followed more easily if they are treated separately.
