Abstract

Ochratoxin A, first investigated by van der Merwe et al.,1 is a toxic metabolite of certain strains of Aspergillus ochraceus Wilh., which is found on African cereals and legume products. The fungi belonging to the group of Aspergillus ochraceus are widely distributed in various agricultural products and have been studied as they frequently produce biologically active compounds.
