Abstract

Gaseous samples are not used as much as the other types of samples we have discussed so far. However, it may sometimes prove necessary to use them, for example when measurements have to be carried out on inert gases. As we shall see below, measurements on samples in the gaseous state can also have advantages when low-energy beta radiation is to be measured, thanks to the increased sensitivity achieved when both the sample gas and the counting gas are present in the same detector volume.
