Abstract
Electroplating is an established and proven technique for the production of metallic coatings on metallic and non-metallic substrates. Applications range from the electrodeposition of zinc on mass produced steel components to the gilding of elegant items of jewellery. The most widely used electroplated coating is bright chrome plate, a layer of nickel followed by chromium. This provides a combination of corrosion resistance, wear resistance, suitability for use in contact with foodstuffs and resistance to heat, that is unequalled by any other coating system.
