The choice of the most suitable assembly method for a particular application will depend on a variety of factors, including: the type and number of components to be assembled; the end use of the assembled unit; and the conditions under which the finished assembly has to operate. Only if the type of methods to be used are examined in a critical manner at the design stage will it be practical to achieve efficient and economical methods of assembling thermoplastic components. The modern engineer has available to him an ever increasing array of assembly techniques for joining thermoplastics. Unless he is an expert in this particular field, the advice of manufacturers of adhesives and fasteners should be obtained at an early stage when contemplating manufacturing any new product involving assembly.
