Abstract

In this chapter the free electron theory of metals as developed by Sommerfeld and others will be discussed. Conductivity, Hall effect and other transport phenomena will be treated separately in Chapter 11. The discussions assume the reader’s familiarity with the material pertaining to Appendixes B, C, D, and E. A reference such as D-7 stands for formula 7, Appendix D, etc.
