Abstract
One speaks of safety stocks (sometimes termed ‘iron or buffer stocks’) in those cases where a stock of goods is maintained at a certain level by discontinuous replenishments of varying intervals of time. The safety stock is, therefore, the average stock which is present when the stock replenishment arrives (see para. 7.4).
