Abstract

The debate between rational intuitionists and ‘moral sense’ philosophers continued throughout the eighteenth century. To gain some impression of the complicated course which it took, we will extract one or two of the arguments which Hutcheson put up against the rationalists, and note the counter-arguments which are to be found in Balguy and Price.
