The ‘new thinking’ of the early 1950s, and the ideas circulated by Crosland, Gaitskell, Strachey and others in the mid-1950s, culminated in 1957 in the adoption by the whole Labour Movement of the policy document on public ownership, Industry and Society.I This was a thoroughly revisionist document, and its publication would have been inconceivable had it not been for the groundwork carried out by revisionists following the defeat of the Party in 1951.
