Abstract

The human being, a social animal, very often faces the dilemma of whether to act selfishly and take advantage of the effort others make or, on the contrary, cooperate for the common good. A classic example of this type of situation is the provision of public goods: as in the case of national defense, where anyone can declare they are not interested in such protection (and not pay for it), knowing that the army will defend them anyway in the case of an invasion.
