Abstract
Poland, along with the territory of the Czechs and Slovaks, is the westernmost settlement of the Slavs. In the early Middle Ages they settled between the Germanic tribes in the west, the Baltic Sea, the Baltic tribes in the north-east, the Russians in the east, and the Hungarians in the south. Already in the high Middle Ages the country was organized as a duchy, which became the Kingdom of Poland in the late Middle Ages.
