Is There a Role for Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in Older Patients?

Abstract

No clinical trial specifically assesses the value of neoadjuvant chemotherapy directed to elderly population. Elderly patients with cancer often present with medical and physiological challenges, and it is crucial to carefully evaluate functional and psychological status in order to decide on the best approach. A multidisciplinary assessment is essential in the selection of elderly patients who may benefit from a more aggressive multimodality treatment which is at present reserved for younger patients.
