Abstract
There are two goals in this chapter. The first goal is to sufficiently develop the theory of characters of groups, which will enable us to reduce the study of characters of finite Abelian groups to the study of characters of finite cyclic groups. Second, we investigate the characters of finite cyclic groups. Throughout the rest of the book, we use the symbol C* to denote the multiplicative group of nonzero complex numbers.
