Abstract
In Chapter 2 we presented the paraxial or Gaussian theory, which describes the propagation of light across an optical system S, but only for rays that are close to the optical axis a and that subtend small angles with it. We showed that, under these conditions, the correspondence between an assigned pair of object and image planes π and π′ is given by the linear relations
