Abstract

Watermelon is one of the highly consumed summer fruits in Ege Region of Turkey. Ödemis Valley in this region is important for its widespread watermelon fields. The aim of this research was to determine the nutrients status of watermelon by examining the leaf and fruit compositions and measuring the soil fertility. Fructose, the dominant sugar in fruits, and subsequently β-glucose, sucrose and α-glucose contents were determined. Statistically significant correlations were found between leaf blade Ca content and fruit brix values and sucrose contents.
