Abstract

Jack is a final-year medical student doing a clinical rotation in internal medicine. Dr. Brown is Jack’s attending for the 6-week rotation. Jack is unclear about what is expected of him during this rotation. In addition, he finds Dr. Brown’s hurried style not very conducive to learning. Jack’s interest in the rotation wanes, and by the third week he resigns himself to the fact that this rotation will be a “waste of time.” He learns the ward “routines” and satisfies himself with just getting by.
