Human Resource Management and Strategic Change: The Italian Case

  • Chapter
  • 201 Accesses

Abstract

Italian firms have successfully undertaken massive organizational changes during the 1980s. The conspicuous process of industrial adjustment (Dertouzos, Lester, and Solow, 1989; Regini and Sabel, 1989) was characterized by the proliferation of hybrid organizational forms (Child, 1987). Italian firms often departed from the standard hierarchical and monolithic model, adopting a variety of more flexible and decentralized organizational structures sometimes based on contractual and informal relationships.
