Oral Cavity, Pharynx, and Larynx

Abstract

In this chapter, we discuss issues frequently encountered in the oral cavity (including buccal mucosa and tongue), pharynx (oropharynx, nasopharynx, and hypopharynx including the base of tongue, tonsils, soft palate, and uvula), and larynx (including supraglottis, glottis, and subglottis). We lump these organs together not only because of their proximal anatomic relations, but also because of the commonality between lesions seen in these organs. Another shared characteristic is that the pathologic assessment of precursor lesions is similar throughout the upper aerodigestive tract (UADT).
