Structural optimization is a robust area of work and research and for that reason difficult to encompass. This chapter cites some areas of continuing activities within structural optimization that are not included in the main body of this text for several reasons. The easiest of these reasons is complexity: This is the case, for example, of the design of tall buildings where the breadth of activities is remarkable as will be seen below. In other cases like design theory, while this activity may be motivated by structural optimization, it is peripheral to it and certainly unpredictable. Finally, the topics included in this chapter reflect the authors’ skills or the absence thereof.
