The clinical course and outcome of the polytraumatized patient is largely determined by the severity and the pattern of injuries sustained. Blunt chest trauma and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) represent the two major single injury entities with the highest risk of causing complications during treatment and recovery from severe multiple injuries.
