Abstract

Extrapleural pneumonectomy (EPP) differs from standard pneumonectomy in that the lung is removed en bloc, together with its associated visceral and parietal pleurae, ipsilateral hemidiaphragm and pericardium, as well as mediastinal lymph nodes. EPP is a radical and aggressive surgery, most commonly performed for treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM).
