Our treatment of matrix theory and the theory of finite-dimensional vector spaces and their linear mappings is finished, and we now turn to the theory of groups.



The above account of how the Enigma was broken was originally explained to me by my colleague Professor Hugh Thurston, who was a British cryptanalyst at Bletchley Park during the war. He characterized the code-breaking activity at Bletchley Park as “one of the few just war efforts human history can boast of.”
