Talking About Things We Don't Like to Talk About
No one wants to have to leave a leadership position. Consequently, leaders often remain in a position longer than they should. Sometimes they don’t detect the warning signs that they should step down, and sometimes they just ignore them. If a leader steps down too early, he/she is disappointed, and if the leader waits too long to resign, everyone else is disappointed. It helps to have negotiated an exit strategy when accepting the leadership position (see Chapter 2).
