One book that every student of the History of Mathematics ought to be made aware of, even though it is not strictly speaking central to the subject either as a work of mathematics or as one of the history thereof, is Augustus de Morgan's A Budget of Paradoxes. The first edition was edited by de Morgan's widow Sophia in 1872, and the second in 1915 by David Eugene Smith. It is a book worth dipping into now and then. In connexion with the work of Qín Jiŭsháo, I looked up what de Morgan had to say about Horner's method.
