Relay Quality Awareness in Mesh Networks Routing

We consider a wireless mesh network whose nodes use the IEEE 802.11 technology. We address the problem of designing an efficient traffic forwarding scheme, which takes into account communication links quality and MAC issues. Through experimental measurements and simulation results, we derive some guidelines on designing an efficient routing scheme. Based on these findings, we define a novel relay selection algorithm which is implemented as an extension of the OLSR routing protocol, and show through simulation that it significantly improves system performances, in terms of both throughput and fairness.
