Summary

Palmprint technology is one of the biometric techniques used to identify an individual. Recognition of palmprints is based on the features like palm lines, texture, ridges etc. Several line and texture extraction techniques have already been proposed. In this paper we propose a novel technique, filiformity to extract the line like features from the palm. We also extracted texture features using Gabor filter from the palmprint image. Performance of the two techniques is determined individually. A sum rule is applied to combine the features obtained from the two techniques to develop an intramodal system. Fusion is applied at both feature level as well as matching level for the authentication mechanism. Performances of the system improved both in False Acceptance Rate (FAR) as well as Genuine Acceptance Rate (GAR) aspects in the intramodal system.
