Abstract
The work of Lagrange was followed by the monumental five-volume Traité de Mécanique Céleste (Treatise of Celestial Mechanics) of Pierre-Simon Laplace, published between 1799 and 1825. This work had crucial importance both in astronomy and in the evolution of philosophical ideas.
It is in the silence of laws that great actions are born. Donatien-Alphonse-François, Marquis de Sade
