Abstract
To efficiently support the fast-growing demand for transmission capacity, optical packet-switched systems seem to be strong candidates as they allow fast dynamic allocation of WDM channels combined with a high degree of statistical resource sharing. In this work, we propose the architecture of an optical packet switching node, equipped with a shared fiber delay line buffer, for all-optical switching of IP traffic flows. Some traffic simulations results of node operation are also presented.
