Abstract
Digital video services, scientific visualization and other multimedia applications require delivery of high network throughput to end user applications. In this paper we identify some of the bottlenecks in the data path between highspeed networks and applications which are responsible for poor application performance. We then present solutions to overcome these bottlenecks at various levels namely: network, operating system, and user. Finally, we show the effectiveness of these solutions on the performance of our multimedia applications.
