Abstract
This chapter is devoted to the modulation of a weakly nonlinear wave train in the case where a mean field is driven due to quadratic nonlinearities. The analysis is presented in the context of a scalar problem, first in a general framework and then exemplified on a few simple wave equations. An example of degenerate case is also presented.
