Abstract
The major indications for gastric surgery are ulcer disease, cancer, and access for feeding (gastrostomy placement). This chapter begins with considerations relevant to those three indications. A brief discussion of alternative choices for a drainage procedure after gastric resection for benign disease or malignancy follows. The chapter concludes with a section on complications. This final section details recognition and management of various postgastrectomy and postvagotomy syndromes.
