Abstract
Quality improvement within health care is conceptually linked to patient outcomes. Though outcomes cannot often be directly measured, the goal of quality improvement is to improve patient outcomes in response to treatment. Payers of health insurance are increasingly focused on investment return, seeking maximal improvement in treatment outcomes for minimal premium dollars. Managed care companies are facing increasing scrutiny, and are being mandated to improve patient outcomes while continuing to contain costs.
