Abstract

I have ended this book with a chapter on personality problems, and psychologists are commonly accused of looking too frequently on the negative side of human personality rather than on the positive. This is partly, of course, because so much of their work has been with people who have problems. Like the medical doctor, the psychologist often tends not to see so much of people when they are well. Many of our insights into personality come, therefore, from the clinical work of people such as Freud, Rogers or Kelly, and even personality tests for general use often have their origin in tests designed for use with the mentally ill.
