Abstract

Only by knowing where personality comes from can we decide the extent to which it can be influenced — particularly in the young — by environmental factors. If personality is fixed by inheritance, there isn’t very much we can do to change things. On the other hand, if it depends in part upon environment, there may be a very great deal that we can do.
